Experience
My background is in learning and project management. I started my career teaching in Northern England and then moved into the development sector managing and improving educational programming for children in Eastern Africa. After completing a Masters in Public Health I moved into the health development sector working on health systems strengthening programmes (again in Eastern Africa) before returning to the UK just before the birth of my eldest child.
Before joining HLA I focused my work on the humanitarian sector, building and developing educational resources, delivering capacity building responses in various countries, and supporting humanitarian responses to infectious disease outbreaks.
At HLA I am responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Leadership pillar and ensuring that this aligns with HLA’s overall strategy. I have oversight of activities and programmes that sit within the pillar and overall responsibility for ensuring that objectives are achieved.
One thing to know
Since having children, I am decidedly less interesting! However, we do have a little self-built camper van and enjoy going away for impromptu weekends and longer road trips around the UK.
My favourite learning resource
This is a difficult one! I enjoy the variety of courses on Kaya and the ability to tailor the content to your particular needs. The Leadership Pillar are working on some interesting youth leadership and engagement programmes at the moment so watch this space!
